Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon UltraBook launched for Rs 85,000

Lenovo has launched the ThinkPad X1 Carbon UltraBook in India on the 20th anniversary of the ThinkPad brand. Priced at Rs 85,000, Lenovo claims this is the world’s thinnest 14-inch UltraBook at less than 8mm and it weighs less than 1.36Kg.
Like most ThinkPads, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon combines fabled characteristics like reliability, mobility and security. To achieve such a light form factor Lenovo used carbon fiber to build the X1 Carbon, which happens to be the same material used in the construction of Formula 1 cars.
On the hardware front, it utilizes the latest generation Intel Ivy bridge processor, 6.3 hours of battery life, a 256GB SSD drive, 14-inch HD+ display, a glass multi-touch trackpad, Dolby Surround sound, and a 6 row backlit keyboard. Lenovo even offers an optional 3G SIM-slot.
Lenovo has not revealed specs like RAM, processor options and GPU in much detail, but it is safe to say that these features will change with the configuration. It runs on Windows 7 for at moment though it will be easily upgradable to Windows 8 when Microsoft releases its next generation OS on October 26.

Samsung launches the Series 9 UltraBook in India for Rs 1,02,990

Samsung has launched the Series 9 UltraBook in India for Rs 1,02,990. The announcement comes only days after the company showcased the very same product running the release preview of Windows 8 at the IFA conference in Berlin. While, the product has been available abroad for sometime, Samsung is only now announcing the product in India.

The Series 9 UltraBook comes loaded with a number of features. It sports a 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1600×900 pixels and its brightness is rated at 400 nits. Samsung claims it to be the world’s thinnest notebook measuring only 12.9mm and weighing only 1.16kg. It is powered by an ultra-low voltage version of Intel’s i7 Ivy-Bridge CPU clocked at 1.9GHz. Along with this it also packs in 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 256GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 400, and a 1.3-megapixel web camera. The version of the product launched in India runs Windows 7, however it is readily upgradable to Windows 8, when it becomes available on October 26.

As far as ports are concerned it has a micro-HDMI, VGA, one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 along with a memory card reader. It also packs in a 6-cell battery that has a rated life of 9 hours, but the Samsung executives intimated to us that one should be looking at around 6.5 hours of life in real world usage.

Besides, its Series 9 UltraBook, Samsung has also launched the Series 5 550P notebook that is powered by a quad-core Intel Ivy Bridge i7 processor, a full HD display (17-inch model only), a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card, a blu-ray drive and a 2TB hard drive. The notebook is offered in 15-inch and 17-inch models. It starts at Rs 62,990.

Another product that comes to India is the Series 3 notebook, which is a decidedly low-end product. However, even the Series 3 notebooks are powered with Intel’s third generation Ivy Bridge i7 processors and have a rated battery life of 7 hours of battery life. This product starts at Rs 48, 490.

Dell announces XPS duo 12 convertible UltraBook at IFA, will be available at Windows 8 launch

Dell has announced the XPS duo 12 convertible UltraBook at IFA in Berlin. The XPS duo 12 features a 12.5-inch Full HD multi-touch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The screen will feature an edge-to-edge layer of Corning Gorilla Glass and it will be offered in varied options of Intel Ivy Bridge going up to the i7 chip.

The convertible boasts an aluminum and carbon fiber construction and its keyboard even incorporates a touch pa and backlit keys. Dell has not revealed information regarding battery life, memory and pricing but it says that the convertible will be available on October 26, when Windows 8 is launched.
